Welcome to GovernanceWiki!

Welcome to the GovernanceWiki, a free open resource for voluntary organisations and social enterprises operating in Scotland and people working with them. We aim for the Wiki to be a source of trusted, reliable and considered information.

Your group may just be starting out and small, you might be an established organisation looking for areas of improvement or an advisor or consultant working with trustees, this resource will give you information on the many topics that will help you to run an organisation effectively with good governance in mind. We link and signpost to external resources both within the third sector and beyond, as well as give good basic descriptions of the tools, approaches and resources you need.

The development and maintenance of the Wiki is being led by Midlothian Community Action and supported by partners with funding from the Tyne & Esk Rural Communities Development Fund, part of the Scottish Government’s Community Led Local Development Rural Programme.

If you wish to contact the editor, please email ian.brooke[@]mca.scot who would be happy to receive feedback, suggestions or corrections etc.

A note on legislation

Governance is a broad theme encompassing a wide range of topics from leadership and compliance to behaviours, effectiveness and managing risk amongst many other things, as described in the Scottish Governance Code. Many Scottish laws or those across the UK may encompass elements that impact on those areas of information. The Wiki’s focus is to link, signpost and refer to the laws of Scotland, and users elsewhere in other territories should ensure compliance and reference to legislation applicable in their location.
